SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford’s Fares Kilani has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for all matches played Feb. 22-28. Kilani went 4-0 last week as the Bulldogs earned wins over Eastern Kentucky (6-1) and Birmingham Southern (7-0).

Competing at No. 1 singles, Kilani topped EKU’s Alex Alvaro, 6-4, 6-7, 1-0 (7) before downing Birmingham Southern’s Jacob Weinacker at No. 2 singles (6-4, 6-0).  With the two wins last week, Kilani is now 5-3 in singles play this spring, including a 4-3 mark at the top position.

In doubles play, Kilani teamed with Justin Ghavami at No. 3 doubles for a 7-6 win over EKU’s Diogo Soares and Indra Patwardham.  Kilani then paired with Austin Heinz for a 6-0 win over Birmingham Southern’s Henry Crosby and David Goodloe.

Samford (5-3) returns to action Sunday (March 6) when the Bulldogs host ETSU (3-5).

Other top performers in the Southern Conference included ETSU’s David Biosca, UNCG’s Connor Thompson, and Chattanooga’s Lucas Plesky.
