ETSU's Herrera Named Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – ETSU’s Robert Herrera has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for all matches played through Feb. 7. Herrera is 5-1 in singles competition and has posted a mark of 4-2 in doubles play as the Bucs have opened the season 3-3.

Competing at No. 4 singles, Herrera has won his last four matches, all of which have come in straight sets. After falling to No. 103 Jon Ho (1-6, 6-7) of Wake Forest last month, the Barcelona, Spain, native defeated Washington’s Sebastian Hawkins (6-3, 6-3), Penn’s Josh Pompan (6-2, 6-3), Portland’s Felix Fan (6-1, 6-2) and Appalachian State’s Jan-Willem Kleynhans (6-4, 6-1).

Herrera and doubles partner Sebastian Yllera are 4-1 at No. 3 doubles and 0-1 at No. 2. Herrera and Yllera have won their last three doubles matches together, including a convincing 6-1 decision over Portland’s Kent Anderson and Carlos Donat.

The Bucs return to action Feb. 26 when they visit Georgia State.

Other top performers in the Southern Conference included Mercer’s Nicholas Guillon, UNCG’s Connor Thompson, Samford’s Fares Kilani, Chattanooga’s Luke Saunders and Wofford’s Haris Poric.
