Samford’s Buchanan finishes seventh at Lady Bulldog
ATHENS, Ga. – The Samford women’s golf team opened the spring season by competing in the Lady Bulldog Individual Tournament, held at the University of Georgia on Saturday afternoon.
Freshman Anna Buchanan led the Bulldogs with a seventh-place finish. The Athens, Georgia, native fired a two-round score of 154 (78-76). Junior Haley Harrington tied for 18th at 161 (76-85).
Sophomore Haley Wagner tied for 22nd in the event, posting a two-round score of 162 (82-80). Freshman Emily Uhland fired a 165 (77-88), tying her for 25th. Redshirt freshman Madeline Davis finished 29th with a total score of 167 (78-89).
Samford freshman Crockett Floyd tied for 30th, firing a total score of 168 (82-86). Sophomore Kate Collom rounded out the Samford participants, finishing 37th with a score of 173 (86-87).
Samford will return to action when the Bulldogs participate in the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Classic. The tournament is set to be held Feb. 28-Mar. 1, in Charleston, S.C.
Kurey paces Spartans Lady Bulldog
ATHENS, Ga. – The UNCG women’s golf team opened the 2016 portion of its schedule Saturday when the Spartans took part in the fourth annual Lady Bulldog Individual Tournament at the University of Georgia Golf Course in Athens.
The one-day 36-hole event featured 40 golfers from seven schools. In addition to UNCG, competitors from Auburn, Dalton State, Ole Miss, Samford and Tennessee were in the field.
Junior Emily Kurey was the Spartans’ top finisher, placing 11th overall. Kurey carded a 13-over-par 157 with rounds of 79 and 78. Alison Hovatter of Ole Miss and Rink Mitsunaga of Georgia won the event with 3-over-par 147 scores.
Sophomore Lexi Kershaw placed 22nd overall with an 18-over-par 162. Kershaw posted rounds of 83 and 79 Saturday. Redshirt freshman Savanna Mackie made her UNCG debut with a 170 (82-88) score while junior Kristin Powers posted a 171 (84-87).
The Spartans return to action in their first team event of the spring season Feb. 28-March 1 at the Kiawah Island Classic.
