Appalachian State moves up in national polls

BOONE, N.C. – Coming off a big wrestling win over Indiana in the NWCA National Duals Championship Series, Appalachian State moved up the rankings of several national polls.

The Mountaineers (12-4, 6-1 SoCon) wrestled at Indiana on Sunday, winning the last three matches of the afternoon to defeat the Hoosiers (6-7, 3-6 Big Ten), 21-13.

The victory propelled App State up the national rankings with one poll, FloWrestling, ranking the Mountaineers as high as No. 18. It is the first time this season that Appalachian was ranked by FloWrestling and also the first time this year the Apps were ranked inside the top 20 of a major poll.

The Mountaineers also re-entered the USA Today/ NWCA poll for the second time this season at No. 23. The Apps were ranked No. 25 for two weeks in the poll earlier in the year.

Lastly, App State was moved up three spots in the InterMat Wrestling poll from No. 25 to No. 22. The Apps has been ranked in the InterMat Wrestling poll for the previous three weeks.

The Mountaineers are back in action on March 5 for the 2016 Arby’s Southern Conference Championship in Asheville, N.C.

Mocs re-enter USA Today/NCWA poll

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga wrestling team is back in the USA Today/NWCA Coaches Poll this week.  Despite not competing since upsetting No. 19 Virginia on Feb. 14, the Mocs moved up to No. 25 for the third time this season.

UTC finished the regular season with a 12-4 record in dual matches and a share of the Southern Conference title with a 6-1 league tally. Chattanooga is also No. 23 in this week's IntermatWrestle.com top-25 dual rankings.

The Mocs are preparing for the upcoming Arby’s Southern Conference Championship in just over one week. Action takes place at Kimmel Arena in Asheville, N.C., on Saturday, March 5.   

Doors open at 9 a.m. Competition begins at 10 a.m. Championships finals start at 7 p.m. with awards to follow.
