SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Mercer’s Katia Stravroulaki has been named the Southern Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for all matches played Feb. 15-21. Stravroulaki went 2-0 at No. 1 singles last week and was 3-0 at No. 1 doubles with Grace Korta.
In Mercer’s 6-1 win over Jacksonville State, Stravroulaki cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Olivia Nguyen. Later in the week, she pulled out a 6-4, 6-7, 10-8 win over College of Charleston’s Liza Fieldsend.
In doubles play, the team of Stravroulaki and Korta picked up a 6-1 win over Nguyen and Genevie Ulanday to start the week. Mercer’s top pair then posted back-to-back 6-4 wins over Missouri’s Kellie Hine and Bea Machado Santos and College of Charleston’s Fieldsend and Katherine Schofield.
Mercer returns to action Friday when the Bears travel to UCF.
Other top performers in the Southern Conference included ETSU’s Marina Espana, Furman’s Ansley Speaks, UNCG’s Jamie Grinberg, Samford’s Carita Moolman, Chattanooga’s Kelsey Coots and Wofford’s Catherine Martin.
