SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Western Carolina’s Taylor Sigmon has been named General Shale Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for competition held Feb. 10-16, the league office announced Wednesday.
Sigmon, a pitcher and infielder on the Catamounts’ softball team, saw action in the pitching circle all five games at the Savannah State Tournament over the weekend, posting a 1.87 ERA and fanning 21 batters in 15 innings. She picked up a pair of wins over Drexel and Savannah State.
The senior from Catawba, N.C., also did damage in the batter’s box. Sigmon ended the weekend with .389 batting average (7-for-18) and eight RBIs. Her best day at the plate came in a 9-1 rout of College of Charleston. Against the Cougars, Sigmon drove in four runs – including the first three runs of the game – on a 2-for-4 performance at the plate.
Sigmon boasts a 3.98 grade point average as a communication sciences and disorders major. She has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District first team the past two seasons.
