Men's Indoor Track and Field Southern Conference

Indoor track athletes of the week announced

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman’s Ryan Adams and Samford’s Tray Oates have been selected as the Southern Conference Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week on the men’s side, while Paladin Laura Miller and Western Carolina’s Tiffani Lewis claimed the women’s honors, the league office announced Wednesday. Selections were made by a group of the league’s track and field coaches and included competition held Feb. 10-16.

Adams, a true freshman from Hudson, Ohio, took the men’s track honor after setting a Furman program record by clocking a 1:50.77 in the 800-meter run at the Music City Challenge in Nashville, Tenn. His time bested the previous record of 1:53.00 and is currently tops in the SoCon.

Oates claimed the men’s field honor by posting a pole vault of 5.20 meters (17' 0.75") to win the event at the Samford Invitational this past weekend. The redshirt sophomore’s mark leads the league and is the only vault of 17 or more feet among conference competitors.

On the women’s side, Miller claimed the track award with personal-best and SoCon-leading time of 16:44.01 in the 5,000-meter run at the Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa, this past weekend. Her time is tops in the league by more than 30 seconds.

WCU’s Lewis nabbed field honors with a season-best leap of 5.86 meters (19’ 2.75”) in the long jump, earning her a top-five finish at the Samford Invitational. The mark ranks second in the conference.

The indoor track and field season will culminate Feb. 26-27 at the Southern Conference Championships hosted by Samford in Birmingham, Ala.
