Furman's Croone Named Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman’s Stephen Croone has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for all games played Feb. 9-15. Croone averaged 23.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.5 blocked shots per game last week as the Paladins claimed wins over The Citadel (95-75) and Mercer (85-74).

The Covington, Ga., native opened the week with 16 points, eight rebounds and four assists against the Bulldogs. The senior then scored a season-high 31 points in his final home game at Timmons Arena as the Paladins topped Mercer. It was Furman’s 10th consecutive home win and gave the Paladins a 13-1 mark at home this season.

Croone shot 13-of-26 from the field last week and was 15-of-19 from the free-throw line.

With last week’s scoring output, Croone moved into sixth place on Furman’s all-time scoring list. He currently ranks third in the SoCon with 17.0 points per game.

Furman (17-11, 11-4 SoCon) returns to action Saturday when the Paladins visit Wofford (14-14, 10-5 SoCon).

Other top performers in the Southern Conference included The Citadel’s Derrick Henry, ETSU’s Ge’Lawn Guyn, Samford’s Christen Cunningham, Chattanooga’s Tre’ McLean, Western Carolina’s Torrion Brummitt and Wofford’s Justin Gordon.
