SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Citadel’s Zane Najdawi has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for all games played Nov. 29 through Dec. 5. The sophomore averaged 22.3 points and 8.7 rebounds and shot 61 percent from the field in three games for the Bulldogs last week. It is the second time the Midlothian, Va., product has earned the award, after being honored Nov. 15.

Najdawi opened the week with a 30-point, nine-rebound effort in a win over Colgate as part of the Holy City Hoops Classic. He followed that up with 16 points and six rebounds in a victory over USC Upstate. The sophomore capped the tournament with his third double-double of the season, as he tallied 21 points and 11 rebounds against Campbell.

The forward also made 84 percent of his free throws on the week and added seven steals in three games. He has been The Citadel’s leading scorer in five of 10 games this season and has scored in double figures in each of his last five games.

The Bulldogs (6-4) return to action Wednesday (Dec. 7) when they host Toccoa Falls.

Other top performers in the Southern Conference included ETSU’s T.J. Cromer, Mercer’s Ryan Johnson, UNCG’s Francis Alonso, Samford’s Alex Thompson, Chattanooga’s Tre’ McLean, Western Carolina’s Haboubacar Mutombo and Wofford’s Ryan Sawvell.
