TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Emily Hatfield and Lauren LaPlant each scored a career-high 12 points as Western Carolina women’s basketball fell to No. 8 Florida State 90-41 Sunday in the Tucker Center.

The top-10 ranked Seminoles outscored Western Carolina 52-12 in the first period in advance of their victory over the Catamounts. WCU showed fight and heart in the second half scoring a combined 29 points and holding Florida State to 38 second-half points.

Florida State held the Catamounts scoreless for the first six plus minutes before Hatfield hit WCU’s lone field goal of the first period at the 3:40 mark. Florida State outscored WCU 22-4 in the first period.

The Seminoles shot 51.5 percent from the field and ripped down 51 rebounds.

Florida State’s Shakayla Thomas led all scorers with 18 points, while Western Carolina's Kyia Hough led the Catamounts defensive effort with four steals.

Western Carolina completes its three-game road swing traveling to Radford on Thursday for an 11 a.m. Education Day game.
