- In a matchup of ranked teams, Samford (6-2, 4-1 SoCon) visits The Citadel Saturday afternoon. The Citadel (8-0, 6-0 SoCon) can earn a share of the league’s conference championship and claim the Southern Conference’s automatic bid to the playoffs with a win.

- Western Carolina’s Detrez Newsome rushed for a school-record 277 yards and two touchdowns last week in a loss to Chattanooga.  The junior eclipsed the school record set by Brad Hoover (251) in 1998.  

- The Citadel Bulldogs, Chattanooga Mocs and Samford Bulldogs are ranked in both weekly FCS polls. The Citadel is ranked fifth in the STATS poll and seventh by the coaches. UTC is eighth in the coaches poll and ninth in the STATS poll. Samford is ranked 18th by the coaches and 20th in the STATS poll.
• Wofford is among the teams receiving votes in both polls.

- Eight of the league’s 25 conference games this season have been decided by one possession. Since the start of the 2013 season, 46 of 113 (.435) league games have been decided by one possession.

- Southern Conference teams are 10-1 against FCS nonconference opponents in 2016.

- Southern Conference teams are 6-1 at home in nonconference games this season.
• SoCon teams are 82-22 (.789) at home in nonconference games since the start of the 2010 season.
• Home teams are 14-11 in conference play this year and are 63-51 since the start of 2013.

- A Southern Conference team has ranked either first or second nationally in rushing in 13 of the last 14 seasons.
• The Citadel ranks second in FCS in rushing this season with 362.9 yards per game.
