SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford’s Demetrius Denzel-Dyson has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for all games played Nov. 22-28. The sophomore averaged 22.7 points, 7.0 rebounds and shot 61 percent from the field in three games last week.
The junior recorded 14 points and five rebounds in back-to-back games against Cincinnati and Bethune-Cookman. Sunday evening against Nicholls, he recorded a double-double with 40 points and 11 rebounds in a double-overtime loss. Denzel-Dyson was 7-of-11 from beyond the 3-point arc, and his 40 points are the most scored by a SoCon player this season.
The Covington, Tenn., native ranks fourth in the league in made 3-pointers per game (3.2) and is fifth in 3-point percentage (.514). Denzel-Dyson has averaged 18.0 points per game through six contests, the fifth-highest average in the league to date.
The Bulldogs (3-3) return to action Tuesday evening (Nov. 29) when they visit Saint Louis.
Other top performers in the Southern Conference included The Citadel’s Zane Najdawi, ETSU’s T.J. Cromer, Mercer’s Ria’n Holland, Chattanooga’s Greg Pryor, Western Carolina’s Haboubacar Mutombo and Wofford’s Fletcher Magee.
