SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford punter and placekicker David Marvin has been named the General Shale Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for competition held Oct. 26 to Nov. 1, the league office announced Wednesday.
Marvin led a Wofford team that is first in the nation in net punting with an average of 44.89. In last week’s 31-21 victory over Mercer, Marvin punted three times, two of which were downed inside the 20-yard line, and achieved an average of 46.7 yards per punt. The Charlotte, N.C., native made his lone field-goal attempt from 33 yards out to give the Terriers a three-score lead late in the third quarter. Marvin also successfully split the uprights in all four PAT attempts, helping Wofford earn its fifth win of the season. On kickoffs, Marvin averaged 63.8 yards per kick on six attempts, five of which were touchbacks.
In the classroom, Marvin boasts a 3.97 grade point average as a biology and chemistry major.
The General Shale Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week recognizes student-athletes that hold a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.3 and whose sport is currently in-season. Nominees must have also completed at least one full academic year at their respective institutions.
