SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Citadel women's soccer team defeated Wofford 1-0 on Thursday evening, marking the first time in program history the Bulldogs have beaten the Terriers on the road.
Samara Nche scored the lone goal in the contest in the 11th minute to give the Bulldogs (4-8, 1-4 SoCon) a 1-0 lead. Nche received the ball from Katherine Arroyo, broke away from her defender and snuck a shot low past the goalkeeper for her third goal this season. After 45 minutes of play, the Bulldogs had five shots and three shots on goal.
The Bulldogs’ defense held strong against Wofford (2-11-1, 0-4-1 SoCon) in the second half en route to the 1-0 win. Freshman Logan Leask notched six saves and the Terriers were held to just 11 shots in the game.
Offensively, Emilie Valenciano continued her strong play as the sophomore tallied five shots and two shots on goal in 84 minutes of play. Ray Brown finished the match with two shots in 29 minutes of action.
The Bulldogs wrap up the weekend with a 2 p.m. SoCon game at Furman on Sunday.
Wofford will take on Mercer this Sunday at 2 p.m. The Terrier seniors will be honored before the game.
