SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNCG goalkeeper Chloe Buehler has been named the Southern Conference women’s soccer player of the week for all competition from Sept. 26 to Oct. 2 after leading the Spartans to a pair of shutouts. The selection is made by the league office.

Buehler worked 195 minutes, 41 seconds of scoreless action in the net, stopping 10 shots as UNCG went 1-0-1 on the week. The redshirt junior made four saves in a scoreless draw with Wofford on Friday, earning her fourth shutout of the season and 13th of her career.

Two days later, the Perrysburg, Ohio, native made six saves in UNCG’s 4-0 win over league-leading Furman before being removed with 4:19 to play with the game well in hand. Teammate Jamie Phelps closed things out as the Spartans earned their second shutout in as many tries, shutting down the nation’s top scoring offense. The win stopped a six-match losing streak for the Spartans and halted Furman’s 12-match winning streak against league opponents, including last year’s SoCon Championship.

The weekly award is the second of Buehler’s career. She also took the honor on Sept. 15, 2015.

UNCG (4-7-2, 1-1-1 SoCon) returns to action Friday at ETSU (7-4-1, 2-1-0) before closing the weekend at Western Carolina (5-7-0, 2-1-0 SoCon) on Sunday.
