Furman finishes third at Landfall Tradition

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Senior Taylor Totland (-2) carded a 73 on Sunday to tie for eighth and lead the second-ranked Furman women’s golf team (+2) to a third-place finish at the 15th annual Landfall Tradition at the par-72, 6,166-yard Pete Dye Course at The Country Club of Landfall in Wilmington, N.C.

Totland teed off of No. 4 in the shotgun start and made the turn at +1. Following hole 10, Totland parred her next 10 holes and finished the round with a birdie on No. 3 to conclude the tournament seven strokes behind Wake Forest’s Jennifer Kupocho, the top-ranked player in the nation, who won individual medalist honors with a three-round total of 73-66-68=207.

Junior Alice Chen (E) fired a 70 to lead the Paladins on Sunday. She scored three birdies in the final round to tie for 13th, while freshman Natalie Srinivasan (+4) added a 71 with three birdies to tie for 21st. Rookie Carly Burkhardt (+6) tied for 27th, and sophomore Haylee Harford (+8) carded a 72 on Sunday to tie for 33rd.

The Paladins shot a 286 on Sunday to move up one position into third place. No. 13 Wake Forest (-5) and 19th-ranked South Carolina (-5) tied for first, and 12th-ranked Purdue (+8) finished fourth, followed by No. 24 Oklahoma (+13) in fifth. Top-ranked Alabama (+17) turned in a sixth-place finish at the tournament.

Furman beat a host of other top-50 teams at the tournament, including Texas Tech, NC State, UCF, Virginia, Clemson and North Carolina.

The Paladins will open the 2017 spring season Feb. 12-14 at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.
