GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG senior midfielder Ricky Chavez was named to the National Team of the Week by College Soccer News on Monday for his play last week. Chavez is one of 12 players across the country named to the team for the week of Sept. 26-Oct. 2.

Chavez led the Spartans to a 2-0-0 start to Southern Conference play with victories at VMI and at home against Furman. He scored against the Keydets off a free kick in the second half to record his first goal of the season. He followed that up in impressive fashion against the 25th-ranked Paladins, scoring the game-winning goal in the 108th minute of action to secure the victory. He ripped a shot from 25 yards out that beat the Furman goalkeeper and sent the Spartans to their fourth win the past five games.

Chavez and Spartans return to action Tuesday night when they travel to Macon, Ga., for a meeting against Mercer. Game time is set for 7 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN3 and the ESPN App.
