SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Chattanooga middle blocker/right side hitter Kristy Wieser has been named the Southern Conference offensive player of the week, while UNCG libero Christina Gregory is the defensive player of the week for matches played Sept. 26-Oct. 2, the conference office announced Monday.

Wieser led the Mocs in wins over ETSU and Mercer this past weekend, averaging 4.86 kills per set and hitting an efficient .468. In Friday’s match against ETSU, the senior tallied 19 kills on 38 swings and chipped in 4.0 blocks and four digs to lead Chattanooga to a 3-1 win over the Bucs. Saturday’s contest at Mercer saw much of the same as Wieser led all players with 15 kills on 24 attempts, hitting .500 for the match in addition to recording 3.0 blocks. The Lincoln, Neb., native currently ranks second in the league in kills per set (3.90) and fourth in hitting percentage (.397) in conference matches.

Gregory led the Spartan defense on the road, averaging 5.22 digs per set as UNCG split its pair of matches last week. The sophomore libero claimed back-to-back match highs after posting 20-dig matches against Mercer and The Citadel. Gregory totaled 23 digs in the Spartans’ five-set loss at Mercer on Friday, followed by a 24-dig performance in UNCG’s 3-1 win over The Citadel on Saturday. The Louisville, Ky., native ranks first overall in the SoCon in digs per set (5.22) and third in digs per set (4.94) in conference matches.
