SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference named its football players of the week Monday for all games played Oct. 1. Samford quarterback Devlin Hodges was named the Offensive Player of the Week, while The Citadel’s Joe Crochet earned the Defensive Player of the Week award. Chattanooga’s Henrique Ribeiro was tabbed as the Special Teams Player of the Week. The players of the week are selected by the league office.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Devlin Hodges, R-So., QB, Kimberly, Ala.
Samford’s Devlin Hodges threw for 315 yards and four touchdowns in the Bulldogs’ 28-26 win over Wofford, completing 28 passes on 32 attempts for a stellar completion percentage of 87.5. The redshirt sophomore completed touchdown passes of 51, 23, 13 and 2 yards. For the season, Hodges has thrown for 14 touchdowns and tossed just two interceptions in 161 passing attempts.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Joe Crochet, The Citadel, Sr., LB, Stone Mountain, Ga.
Linebacker Joe Crochet forced one fumble and recovered two in the Bulldogs’ 37-14 win at Western Carolina. The senior from Stone Mountain, Georgia, also recorded a career-best 2.5 sacks among his four tackles for the game. Crochet’s first fumble recovery came on a strip sack in which he forced and recovered the fumble, while his second came on Western Carolina’s final offensive possession. Crochet was part of a defense that limited the Catamounts to just 122 yards of total offense on the day.

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Henrique Ribeiro, Chattanooga, Sr., P/K, Chattanooga, Tenn.
Henrique Ribeiro earned his second straight weekly honor and the eighth of his career, tying former Appalachian State and current Detroit Lions punter Sam Martin for the SoCon career record. Ribeiro opened the scoring in Chattanooga’s 37-7 win over ETSU with a career-long 52-yard field goal, which tied for the second-longest in school history. The senior also punted twice for 99 yards, including a long of 54, both of which were downed inside the 20. Ribeiro kicked off seven times for an average of 64.4 yards per kick, recording four touchbacks.
