MACON, Ga. – Mercer women's soccer redshirt senior Maddie Clark was named to the Capital One Academic All-District IV first team as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday.
To be eligible for the Academic All-District teams, student-athletes must be starters or important reserves with at least 3.30 cumulative grade point averages. Candidates also must complete at least one full academic year at the nominating institution and be at least sophomores athletically.
Clark is one of just 11 players in the entire district to receive the honor and is the only player in the Southern Conference to be voted onto the squad. Mercer is in District 4 with nationally ranked Auburn, Clemson, Florida State and South Carolina.
With the first-team selection, Clark is now eligible for Academic All-America honors, as first-, second- and third-team honorees will be selected in November.
This is Clark’s first time as an Academic All-District honoree, and she is the third Mercer player to garner an Academic All-District selection in program history, joining Kacie Hudson, who was named to the All-District third team in 2010, and Maggie Cropp, a 2015 All-District first-team selection.
Clark currently leads Mercer and ranks third in the SoCon and 18th nationally with 12 goals. She is also third in the league and 33rd nationally with 26 total points, while ranking second in the conference and 12th in the country with five game-winning goals. Clark is currently tied for sixth on Mercer’s career points leaderboard with a total of 62 points and is fifth all-time with 25 career goals. She has also tied for first place in career game-winning goals (12) and has earned four places in Mercer’s single-season record books.
Mercer finished the season tied for third in the SoCon and will host No. 6 seed Chattanooga in the second round of the SoCon Championship on Sunday, Oct. 30, at 4 p.m. at Bear Field.
