SPARTANBURG, S.C. – ETSU goalkeeper LeaAnn Cutshall has been named the Southern Conference women’s soccer player of the week for all competition from Oct. 17-23 after posting a pair of shutouts on the week. The selection is made by the league office and is the final one of the season.
Cutshall, a Johnson City, Tennessee, native, registered nine saves on the week, leading the Bucs to shutout wins over Wofford (4-0) and Furman (2-0) on Friday and Sunday, respectively. The sophomore net-minder turned away three shots against the Terriers before notching a career-best six saves against the Paladins, who entered the match second nationally in goals per game at 2.80. The win over Furman propelled the Bucs past the Paladins and into second place in the final league standings, locking up the No. 2 seed in the upcoming SoCon Women’s Soccer Championship.
The shutouts ran Cutshall’s career total to three in just six matches played and helped the Bucs break the school record for shutouts in a season (eight) and at home (seven). ETSU, which has allowed just one goal at home this season, finished the regular season with an 8-0-0 mark at Summers-Taylor Stadium, the site of the semifinals and final of the SoCon tournament.
The Bucs (11-5-2) host either No. 7 seed Western Carolina (7-11-0) or No. 10 seed Wofford (2-15-1) on Saturday at 7 p.m. for a quarterfinal SoCon match. WCU and Wofford will square off on Wednesday in Cullowhee, North Carolina, in a first-round bout for the right to face the Bucs.
Also nominated: Emilie Valenciano (The Citadel), Katelyn Dimopoulos (Mercer), Chloe Buehler (UNCG), Jermaine Seoposenwe (Samford) and Sayres McKenna (Western Carolina).
