Furman?s Lara, Carnahan Sweep Runners of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman’s Frank Lara and Savannah Carnahan have been named Southern Conference men’s and women’s runners of the week, respectively, for competition held Oct. 14-15, the league office announced Wednesday.

Lara paced the men’s squad to an 11th-place finish at the Pre-NCAA Invitational meet in Terre Haute, Ind., on Saturday. The Houston, Texas, native finished first for the Paladins on the 8K course in 24:24.10. His time currently ranks second among all men’s SoCon runners on an 8K course.

Carnahan was the first Paladin on the women’s side to complete the 6K course at the Pre-NCAA Invitational on Saturday. The freshman crossed the finish line in 20:30.20 to place 16th overall, leading the Paladins to a 25th-place finish among an elite group. Her mark of 20.30.20 is the top SoCon time among all women’s runners on a 6K course this season.

Also nominated for men’s runner of the week: Simeon Roberts (ETSU).
