-For the second straight week, Samford quarterback Devlin Hodges set a new career for passing yards.  Hodges completed 35-of-50 passes for a personal-best 435 yards in a win over VMI.  Hodges’ five touchdown passes against the Keydets tied a career high.

-Seven of the league’s 18 conference games (.389) have been decided by one possession.  Since the start of the 2013 season 45 of 108 (.438) league games have been decided by one possession.

-Three league games are on the schedule this weekend.  The Citadel travels to Wofford, while VMI visits Chattanooga.  Samford will play host to Western Carolina.  ETSU and Mercer have nonconference games while Furman is idle.

 

•  The Citadel Bulldogs, Chattanooga Mocs and Samford Bulldogs are ranked in both weekly FCS polls. The Citadel is ranked fifth in the STATS poll and sixth by the coaches. UTC is eighth in the coaches poll and 11th in the STATS poll. Samford is ranked 20th by the coaches and 21st in the STATS poll.
• Wofford is among the teams receiving votes in both polls.


• The Southern Conference has two players on the STATS Offensive Player of the Year Watch List and two on the Defensive Player of the Year Watch List.
• Offensive Player of the Year - Derrick Craine (Chattanooga) Devlin Hodges (Samford).
• Defensive Player of the Year - Keionta Davis (Chattanooga) and Dee Delaney (The Citadel).

• Wofford head coach Mike Ayers is the dean of SoCon coaches. Ayers has tallied 145 wins at ETSU and Wofford while coaching in the Southern Conference. He ranks third on the league’s all-time wins list behind Appalachian State’s Jerry Moore and Duke’s Wallace Wade. Mercer’s Bobby Lamb is fourth on the all-time wins list with 81.

• Current Southern Conference teams are 35-44 (.440) all-time in overtime games. The most recent overtime game was Oct. 1, 2016, when Mercer topped VMI (33-30).
