SPARTANBURG, S.C. – ETSU forward Fletcher Ekern has been named the Southern Conference men’s soccer player of the week for all competition from Oct. 10-16 after scoring in a pair of wins for the Bucs. The selection is made by the league office.

Ekern scored a goal each in wins over VMI and Wofford. In Tuesday’s 3-0 win over the Keydets, Ekern notched ETSU’s second goal of the day to give the Bucs some breathing room. The junior from Knoxville, Tennessee, scored a second-half equalizer in ETSU’s eventual 2-1 win over Wofford on Saturday.

Ekern, who shares the team scoring lead with 13 points on a team-best six goals and one assist, has scored all but one of those goals in the last three contests, including the program’s first-ever hat trick in a win at UNCG on Oct. 8.

A first-team All-SoCon performer and the leading goal-scorer in the league last season, Ekern earns weekly honors for the first time in his career.

ETSU (8-4-1, 4-1-1 SoCon), which took over first place in the SoCon standings on the week, visits VMI (0-12-0, 0-6-0) on Tuesday before returning home to host Furman (6-5-2, 2-3-1) on Saturday.

Also nominated: Lewis Hawke (Furman), Will Bagrou (Mercer), Damieon Thomas (UNCG) and Matthew Aurednik (Wofford).
