SPARTANBURG, S.C. – ETSU outside hitter Briana Allmon has been named the Southern Conference offensive player of the week, while Chattanooga middle blocker Emily Plumlee is the defensive player of the week for matches played Oct. 3-9, the conference office announced Monday.
Allmon led ETSU to a pair of wins at home against Western Carolina and UNCG last weekend. The senior recorded 43 kills in two matches, averaging 5.38 kills per set while hitting .265 on 102 total attempts. In Friday’s five-set win over Western Carolina, Allmon notched a career-high 28 kills, marking the third-highest total by a SoCon player this season. The Flower Mound, Texas, native had another strong performance on Saturday against UNCG, tallying 15 kills, seven digs and 2.0 blocks as the Bucs swept the Spartans in Johnson City, Tenn. Allmon currently leads ETSU with 246 kills and ranks third in the league in kills per set (3.84).
Plumlee impressed on the front line for the Mocs last week, averaging 1.71 blocks per set in Chattanooga’s two wins over Wofford and Western Carolina. In Friday’s match against Wofford, the sophomore middle blocker recorded career highs in total blocks (8.0) and block assists (7.0) in just three sets played, both of which are the most for a SoCon player in a three-set match this season. Against Western Carolina on Saturday, Plumlee claimed four blocks and tied a career-high nine kills in the Mocs’ four-set win over the Catamounts. The Chesapeake, Va., native ranks fourth in the league this season in blocks per set (1.31) against conference opponents and sixth overall (0.88).
