SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference named its football players of the week today for all games played Oct. 6-8. Samford quarterback Devlin Hodges was named the Offensive Player of the Week, while Chattanooga’s Montrell Pardue earned the Defensive Player of the Week award. Wofford’s David Marvin was tabbed as the Special Teams Player of the Week. The players of the week are selected by the league office.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Devlin Hodges, Samford, So., QB, Kimberly, Ala.
Samford’s Devlin Hodges completed 27-of-38 passes for 411 yards with three touchdowns strikes as Samford topped Furman, 38-21 Saturday afternoon. The sophomore also scored a 7-yard rushing touchdown in the win and became the first Bulldog quarterback to pass for 400 yards since 2013. All three of his touchdown passes went to Karel Hamilton. The Kimberly, Ala., native ranks fifth nationally with 327.0 yards passing per game.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Montrell Pardue, Chattanooga, So., DB, Clarksville, Tenn.
Chattanooga’s Montrell Pardue tied his career high with eight tackles in UTC’s 52-31 homecoming win over Mercer on Saturday afternoon. Pardue was credited with two tackles for loss, resulting in minus-11 yards. Midway through the third quarter, the sophomore stepped in front of a John Russ pass and returned it 29 yards for a touchdown, which was his second career score after returning a fumble for a touchdown against Jacksonville State in 2015.

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: David Marvin, Wofford, Jr., P/K, Charlotte, N.C.
David Marvin handled all three phases of the kicking game for the Terriers in their 31-19 win at Western Carolina on Saturday night. Marvin set a new school record with a career-long 57-yard field goal in the first quarter. The kick tied the league record for longest field goal in conference history. The junior was 4-of-4 on PATs and punted three times for an average of 57.0 yards per punt. Marvin kicked off six times and recorded four touchbacks against the Catamounts.
