Wofford Cross Country Runs At Upstate Invite

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford College men’s and women’s cross country teams competed at the Upstate Invite on Saturday morning at the Roger Milliken Research Center. In a competitive meet, the women finished sixth overall and the men were fifth.

In the women’s 5K race, Taryn Schoen finished 14th overall in a time of 18:48.89 to lead the Wofford team. Mary Stewart Wilson was 21st at 19:05.84 and Shannon McAndrew was 27th in 19:28.11. Anya Bunao crossed the finish in 19:48.82, followed by Madison Paraskeva in 19:56.38 to round out the top five. Also running for the Terriers were Rebeka Parent, Sommer McKenzie, Anna Lyles, Jamie Barnett, Alexandra Christopoulos, Alexa Golbus, Rebaka Fadgyas, Chandler Washburn, Ashley Golbus, Ashley McCreary, Breck Peterson, Sarah Spiro and Morgan Schweers.

The men’s 8K competition followed and Cisco Ferre was the top finished for the Terriers in 26:15.45 to take 20th overall. Cristian Widenhouse was 21st at 26:30.37 and Jack Zemp was 23rd at 26:37.92. Ethan Epstein ran a 27:02.02 and Jonathan Rice finished in 27:17.59 to round out the scorers. Dane Szalwinski, Joe Harbacevich, Ben Boatwright, Walker Gibbs, David Grant and William Stutts also competed for Wofford.  READ MORE

 

The Citadel's Lantz Takes Second Against Loaded Field

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Michael Lantz continued his surge as one of the top runners in the Southern Conference, placing second among Division I competitors at the Upstate Invitational on Saturday.

Lantz finished behind Luka Ndungu of Florida Gulf Coast and two unattached runners to place fourth overall and second in Division I among 127 total runners. The junior finished the 8K course in a time of 25:13.82 to set a new personal best in the distance. Lantz beat his top time from this season at the Will Wilson Citadel Invitational by more than a minute and a half.

Lantz, along with junior Jamie Cunningham and senior Ross Jordan, led the Bulldogs to a fourth place team finish. Cunningham and Jordan finished just tenths of a second apart, with Cunningham taking 16th place among Division I competitors in 26:14.16, followed by Jordan in 18th in 26:14.49.

Alex Cothran and Eric Avalos rounded out the Bulldogs' scoring, placing 38th and 41st, respectively.

The women's team placed seventh overall, led by Caillian Colquitt who placed 24th among Division I competitors. The senior finished the 5K race in 19:14.73, hitting her best time of the season. READ MORE

 
Chattanooga Men Claim Title JSU Foothills, Women Second
OXFORD, Ala. - The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's cross country team took first in the Red Division race at the Foothills Invitational hosted by Jacksonville State at the Oxford Cross Country Course in Oxford, Ala., and the women finished second.
The Mocs placed three in the top four of the Red Division and all eight finished in the Top 25. JuniorBrennan Huber led the men to the win with a second place finish at 25:04.2, just seven seconds behind Mercer's Ahmed Jamal. Senior Paul Stuart  was third with a time of 25:15.6 followed by sophomore transfer Gavin Hasty  who was fourth in the Division I race with a time of 25:27.6 on the 8-kilometer course.
 
Freshman Nathan Watson was the fourth UTC runner across the line placing ninth at 25:38.7 and senior Austin Casassa  was the Mocs' fifth scoring runner placing 12th at 25:43.1.
 
Chattanooga won the race with a score of 30 followed by Georgia Tech second with 61 points. Southern Conference foe Mercer was fifth in the race  of six Division I teams with 125 points.
The women placed eight in the Top 20 with four in the Top 10. Junior Maddison Melchionna led the women, placing third with a time of 18:18.2 with two Georgia Tech runners ahead and behind her. She was followed by junior Hannah Chamblin in sixth covering the 5-kilometer course in a time of 18:29.1. Senior Jessica York was eighth at 18:32.9 and sophomore Brianna Nelson placed ninth with a time of 18:36.8.  READ MORE

Jama Sets School Record, Leads Mercer Men at JSU

OXFORD, Ala. – Two races in, Ahmed Jama is proving he can run with the best. A week removed from his individual 8K victory at the Julius Johnson Invitational, Jama set the 8K school record Saturday in the JSU Foothills Invitational to finish first overall among Division I runners with a time of 24:57.2.
 
Jama's record-breaking time helped the Mercer men's cross country team place fifth among six teams in the Red Division (NCAA Division I schools) with a total time of 2:14:16. Six other Bears finished in the top-40 of the Red Division, including Michael Rowlands (27:03.5), Cameron Gatt (27:10.3), Abraham Balawi(27:32.3), Mac Power (27:33.0), Mark Brannen (27:35.3) and Justin Hanson(28:08.5).  READ MORE

On the women's side, enior Victoria Rogers continued an impressive senior season with a second-place finish at the Julius Johnson Invitational, leading the Mercer women's cross country team to a runner-up effort at the Georgia Industrial Children's Home on Friday.
 
Rogers ran the women's 5K in 19 minutes and 45.21 seconds, approximately six seconds behind Georgia Southern's Ashton Lord, who won the event in 19:39.28. The Eagles would go on to take the team victory as they split the top-10 with Mercer but claimed three of the top five finishes.
 
Courtney Czerniak (20:02.11), McKaylin Darsey (20:13.81), Kimberly Whiting (20:24.59) and Anna Grzeszczak (20:35.56) finished fifth, seventh, ninth and 10th, respectively to round out Mercer's top finishers. Every Mercer runner finished in less than 24 minutes and placed no higher than 27th overall. READ MORE


Catamount Cross Country Returns to Asheville

The Western Carolina men's and women's cross country teams returned to Asheville, N.C., to compete in the Asheville Cross Country Challenge Saturday morning. The Catamount women took third out of an 11 team field while the men placed fifth out of 12 teams. Sophomore Kaitlyn Lingard was WCU's top individual finisher as she placed second in the women's 5K race with a blazing time of 18:33.78.

Freshman Shawnda Martin took fifth on the women's side as she stayed under 19 minutes as well with a time of 18:58.56.

The men's top finisher was sophomore Liam Brooks who completed the 8K course in 26:06.47. Freshman Justin Tuckercrossed next for the Catamounts as he took 20th overall with a time of 26:55.27.  READ MORE

 

Bulldogs Roll at Chile Pepper

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Samford University men's and women's cross-country teams rolled to a pair of top-six finishes at the prestigious Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival on Saturday, Oct. 1.

Hosted at Fayetteville's Agri Park by the University of Arkansas, the Bulldog women placed fifth and the men placed sixth.

Juniors Karisa Nelson and Emma Garner paced the Bulldogs with top-12 individual finishes in the college women's 5K race. Nelson placed sixth in a personal-best 16 minutes, 38.99 seconds. Garner followed closely behind in a personal-best 16:53.69, which was good for 12th.

Junior Anna Long and freshman Mary Grace Strozier finished third and fourth for the Bulldog women. Long clocked a personal-best 18:00.39 to place 45th, and Strozier crossed the line in 18:09.25 – two seconds shy of a PR – to place 54th.  READ MORE

 

Personal Bests Mark VMI's XC Efforts at Paul Short

LEHIGH, Pa. - Jay Broom and Brandon White both recorded 8K personal bests, helping the VMI men's cross country team to a solid afternoon at the Paul Short Run Saturday in Lehigh, Pa.

Saturday's events included three races over the 8K distances, and Broom lead the way for VMI by finishing in 133rd place in the gold division and clocking in at 25:08. White finished 150th in that race and was across the line in 25:11. Both runners ran a conservative first mile - 5:05 and 5:04 respectively - before moving up throughout the race.

Logan Luckett finished just outside the top-300 overall, leading the VMI women's cross country team at the Paul Short Run, contested Saturday in Lehigh, Pa.

Luckett finished 312th overall among the over 1,000 competitors, who ran in three different races over the 6K course. The freshman clocked in at 22:22 and was 65th overall in the brown race. READ MORE

 

ETSU Wraps Up Competition at Greater Louisville Classic

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The ETSU cross country program faced stiff competition on Saturday at the Greater Louisville Classic on Saturday going up against national and regional ranked competition.

For the second time this season on the men’s side senior Simeon Roberts paced the Bucs finishing 64th out of 313 runners with a time of 25:06.35. Roberts recorded his best 8K time of the season, eclipsing the mark of 25:58.30 at the Virginia Tech Alumni Invitational.  READ MORE
