SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford’s Jordan Highsmith was named the field athlete of the week on the women’s side for competition held Jan. 20-26, as selected by a group of the league’s track and field coaches. There were no nominations for the other weekly honors.
Highsmith, a senior, competed at the Samford Multi over the weekend, finishing sixth overall in the pentathlon among a field of competitors hailing from the likes of UAB, South Alabama, Troy, Kennesaw State and Stephen F. Austin. The Missouri City, Texas, native accumulated a league-best 3,164 points across the five events. She earned 520 points with a fifth-place finish in the long jump (5.30 meters) and another 820 points after clocking a 9.44-second performance in the 60m hurdles.
Indoor track and field action in the SoCon will pick up again with eight teams competing this weekend.
