BALTIMORE – Wofford College head men’s soccer coach Ralph Polson earned the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Letter of Commendation on Friday night at the 69th annual NSCAA Convention.
Polson, who finished his eighth season at Wofford and his 24th overall season as a head coach this fall, was presented the honor at the NSCAA Awards Banquet along with four other recipients. Joining Polson in receiving the honor this year were Jeff Gettler, head men’s soccer coach at Husson University; Grag Mauch, boys’ soccer coach at Canterbury School in Fort Wayne, Indiana; Steve Clements, head men’s soccer coach at Tyler Junior College; and Sue Ryan, head women’s soccer Coach at Stony Brook University.
“I am truly humbled to be recognized by the NSCAA,” Polson said. “My work with the NSCAA has simply been an attempt to give back to the association for all it has done for me.”
Polson was selected for the award in December by the NSCAA Awards Committee. The award is in recognition of a career in coaching filled with service to the NSCAA and college soccer, including his service on the NSCAA Board of Directors, a variety of work with awards and promotion of NSCAA College Services membership and overall enhancement of the intercollegiate game.
Polson’s service to the NSCAA stems from his long involvement with the organization, especially over the past decade. He has served on the Executive Committee of the NSCAA since 2008 and served for three years as the VP of Conventions and Awards for the NSCAA beginning in 2009. In January 2012, he became the 64th president of the NSCAA, and from 2001 to 2014, he served as the NSCAA Division I All-America Committee National Chairman and South Region Chairman.
Over his 24 seasons at both Wofford and Presbyterian, Polson has an overall record of 263-172-40. His record at Wofford over eight seasons stands at 67-69-13, and he has led the Terriers to Southern Conference championships in both 2009 and 2013.
Wofford finished the 2015 season fifth in the Southern Conference with a 9-7-2 overall mark (4-5-1 SoCon).
