AUBURN, Ala. – The Citadel men’s tennis team suffered two losses to open the season at the hands of No. 61 Auburn in Auburn, Alabama. The two teams played twice on Friday to open dual match play for both teams.
The Bulldogs (0-2) kept things close in the first match of the day despite losing 7-0. Artemie Amari led for a majority of the first set at the No. 1 position and it would take an extra game before Mazime Hinnisdaels, the No. 96 player in the country, pulled away and sealed the point for the Tigers. Amari again challenged a ranked player in the second match, No. 100 Marko Krickovic as the first set went to 7-5.
In doubles play, Amar and Nicholas Bradley came up just one game short and fell to Krickovic and Conner Huertas 7-6 in the second match of the day. Amari and Bradley were the only duo to win last weekend at the UCF Invitational.
The Citadel returns to action on Monday for its second doubleheader of the season against North Carolina State. The matches, originally scheduled for Sunday, will be played at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Live video and stats will be available at CitadelSports.com.
