SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Campbell’s Nathan Kraisser has been named the Arby’s Southern Conference Wrestler of the Week for all competition from Jan. 6-12. The selection is made by the league office.
Kraisser went 5-0 with a win over a ranked opponent on the week, including a 4-0 mark at the Virginia Duals in Hampton, Va.
Kraisser, a redshirt junior from Ellicott City, Md., got his week started with a dominant 18-0 technical fall over Appalachian State’s Jacob Grigg on Jan. 6.
At the Virginia Duals on Friday, Kraisser picked up three wins, starting with a pin over Arizona State’s Alex Dalusio in 6:32. The North Carolina transfer followed that up with a 13-5 major decision over eighth-ranked Emilio Saavedra of Old Dominion before capping his day with a 5-4 win over George Mason’s Vince Rodriguez. In his finale Saturday, Kraisser pinned The Citadel’s Caleb Smith in just 2:35 in a nonconference bout.
Kraisser’s undefeated week moved him to 25-7 on the year, including a 10-1 dual mark. The SoCon weekly award is the first of Kraisser’s career.
Campbell (0-11, 0-2 SoCon) returns to action at VMI (2-6, 0-3 SoCon) for a SoCon dual on Friday at 7:30 p.m. in a bout that can be seen on the SoCon Digital Network.
