Mercer?s Cropp named SoCon Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Mercer goalkeeper Maggie Cropp has been named the Southern Conference women’s soccer player of the week for all competition from Aug. 31 to Sept. 6 after posting a pair of shutouts. The selection is made by the league office.

With six saves against Tennessee Tech and five against Gardner-Webb, Cropp totaled 11 saves in the pair of scoreless draws, posting a spotless 0.00 goals-against average and 1.000 save percentage in 220 minutes of work.

The senior from Morgan Hill, Calif., leads the SoCon in both categories this season, as she has fashioned a 0.39 GAA and a .931 save percentage.

Cropp also moved to the top of the SoCon’s career GAA list this weekend, as she reached the required 2,000-minute threshold for inclusion on Friday against TTU. Now in her second year in the league, Cropp has posted a 0.74 GAA  during Mercer’s time in the SoCon, good for a tie with career record-holder Alyssa Whitehead of Samford (2008-11).

The weekly award is the first for Cropp, who was the Most Outstanding Player of the SoCon Championship last season in helping the Bears to the tournament title.

Mercer (1-3-2) is back in action when it hosts Western Kentucky at 7 p.m. Friday.
