Men's Soccer 9/8/2015 10:03:00 AM Southern Conference Mercer?s Duru named SoCon Player of the Week SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Mercer midfielder Jordan Duru has been named the Southern Conference men’s soccer player of the week for all competition from Aug. 31 to Sept. 6 after leading the Bears to a pair of road wins. The selection is made by the league office.Duru had a hand in both game-winning goals, scoring the decisive marker in Mercer’s 3-2 win over Georgia State on Thursday and assisting on the Bears’ first tally in a 2-0 victory at UCF on Sunday. Both goals came off of Duru corner kicks, as his 87th-minute service against the Panthers found the back of the net after a scrum in the box and his corner in the seventh minute against the Golden Knights was finished by teammate Connor Antley.The weekly award is the first of his career for the Powder Springs, Ga., native.Mercer (2-2) heads to Orem, Utah, this weekend for the Holiday Inn Express Invitational.
