SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman’s Allie Buchalski and Tanner Hinkle have been named Southern Conference women’s and men’s runners of the week, respectively, for competition that took place Sept. 25-26, the league office announced on Wednesday.
Hinkle, a junior from Mason, Mich., put forth a solid effort at the Virginia/Panorama Farms Invitational, running a 24:13.9 on the men’s 8k course to finish ninth place. The Paladin men, who are ranked 20th nationally by the USTFCCCA, finished third at the meet behind Virginia and Oklahoma. This is Hinkle’s third career runner of the week honor and his second in three weeks.
On the women’s side, Buchalski clocked a time of 17:23.5 on the 6k course, pacing the Paladin women to a ninth-place finish at the meet. The junior from Johns Creek, Ga., has garnered runner of the week distinction three of the past four weeks and four times for her career.
The SoCon cross country slate will resume on Friday as UNCG competes at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational in South Bend, Indiana. Six more SoCon teams will be in action on Saturday, with five squads running at the USC Upstate Invitational in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
