Chason, Davenport take Player of the Week honors

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Chattanooga junior Allie Davenport was named Southern Conference offensive player of the week, and fellow Moc Catherine Chason earned defensive player of the week honors for competition that was held Sept. 21-27. Selections were made by the conference office.

 

Offensive Player of the Week: Allie Davenport ▪ Chattanooga ▪ Junior ▪ Outside Hitter ▪ Tyrone, Ga.

Davenport, from Tyrone, Ga., led Chattanooga’s offense in its wins over UNCG and Western Carolina this past weekend. She recorded 15 kills and a .429 attack percentage with no errors in the Mocs’ 3-1 triumph over UNCG before adding a season-high 17 kills with a .395 attack percentage in a sweep of the Catamounts. Davenport is sixth in the SoCon in kills per set with a 3.04 average and has helped Chattanooga top the conference in attack percentage at a .273 clip. This is her first player of the week honor.

Defensive Player of the Week: Catherine Chason ▪ Chattanooga ▪ Senior ▪ Libero/Defensive Specialist ▪ Alpharetta, Ga.

Chason, a senior from Alpharetta, Ga., averaged 7.29 digs per set for the Mocs in their two victories over UNCG and Western Carolina. Against the Spartans, Chason totaled 37 digs in four sets, which is the most for a SoCon player in a single match this season. She followed up with a 14-dig performance against Western Carolina on Saturday. Chason is fourth in the SoCon with an average of 4.54 digs per set, and as a team the Mocs are averaging 17.28 digs per set, good for first in the conference. This is Chason’s first player of the week honor.
