SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford’s Arsène Guillorel and Western Carolina’s Kaitlyn Lingard have been named Southern Conference men’s and women’s runners of the week, respectively, for competition that took place Sept. 18-19, the league office announced on Wednesday.

Guillorel, a sophomore, turned in a time of 24:43.80 in the 8k at the Commodore Classic in Nashville, Tennessee, on Saturday. The time was good for third place and helped the Bulldog men to a seventh-place finish at the meet. Hailing from Pontchateau, France, Guillorel was named to the SoCon all-conference second team in 2014 and also earned a spot on the all-freshman team. This is Guillorel’s first career SoCon runner of the week distinction.

Lingard, a freshman, clocked a time of 18:18.43 in the 5k race at the UNC Asheville Invitational, leading the Catamount women to a second-place finish at the event. Lingard was one of six Western Carolina runners to place in the top 20. The Catamount women edged out North Carolina A&T, Presbyterian and Wofford at the meet. This is Lingard’s first career weekly honor.

The SoCon cross country schedule will continue with Mercer, UNCG and Samford all competing on Friday.
