ETSU?s Smith named SoCon Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – ETSU midfielder James Smith has been named the Southern Conference men’s soccer player of the week for all competition Sept. 14-20. The selection is made by the league office.

Smith had a goal and an assist Wednesday as the Bucs picked up a 3-1 win over Kentucky, which was ranked No. 23 nationally by Top Drawer Soccer at the time.

The Eastbourne, England, native shares the team lead with five points on two goals and an assist this season.

The weekly award is the first for Smith, who is in his first season as a graduate student at ETSU after transferring from Lees-McRae.

ETSU (2-2-1) hosts Liberty on Tuesday at 5 p.m. at Summers-Taylor Stadium, site of this season’s Southern Conference Men’s Soccer Championship.

Also nominated: Jeremy Booth (Mercer) and Leeroy Maguraushe (UNCG).
