OREM, Utah – The Mercer University men's soccer team picked up a 1-0 win over Utah Valley on Sunday afternoon in the Holiday Inn Express Invitational. The Bears handed the Wolverines their first loss of the season to close out the tournament.

Mercer scored the only goal of the match in the 75th minute when Ian Antley headed the ball toward Carson Brooks, who drove down the left hand side of the field and crossed the ball and Jourdan Gooden headed the ball into the net.

Gooden's goal was his second of the season, and the senior currently leads Mercer with five points.

Jeremy Booth anchored a Mercer defense that recorded its second shutout of the season.

Booth, Conner Antley and Ian Antley were named to the All-Tournament Team.

Mercer improves to 3-3 on the season, while Utah Valley suffered its first loss and moves to 5-1.

Mercer will return home to face Presbyterian on Friday, Sept. 18, at 5 p.m. at Bear Field. The game will be the first of a doubleheader, as the women's team is set to play at 7:30 p.m.
