Mercer's Madden named NCAA Regional All-Tourney

MACON, Ga. – After helping lead the Mercer University baseball program to its third NCAA tournament appearance, sophomore Charlie Madden was named to the Tallahassee Regional All-Tournament team as selected by featured media members.

Madden led the team with a .625 batting average during regional play, including a 3-for-4 effort with a double and an RBI in the Bears' opening game against Florida State. He is the third member of the Mercer baseball program to earn all-tournament accolades in NCAA Regional play, as current professional players Billy Burns and Chesny Young also received the honor.

The 6-foot-3 catcher, who was also named to the Southern Conference All-Tournament team, hit an impressive .522 in postseason play, totaling four extra-base hits and driving in 10 runs during the Bears' run through the SoCon Baseball Championship presented by Mountain Shore Properties and NCAA Regional play. The strong finish helped Madden raise his batting average by nearly 40 points over the final two weeks, as he closed the year with a .272 average, nine home runs and 49 RBIs.

Mercer reached the 35-win mark for the sixth straight season, as it entered NCAA Regional play as one of only nine programs in the nation to achieve the feat.
