GREENVILLE, S.C. – Furman’s Jake Kinsley’s remarkable story as a marrow donor is featured in the 2015 NCAA Men’s College World Series (CWS) game program, which has been published for the event that runs from June 13-24, in Omaha, Neb.

Kinsley’s story, “A Sacrifice Out Of Left Field”, is authored by Greenville News sportswriter and 2006 Furman graduate Mandrallius Robinson.

Former Greenville News sportswriter and longtime NASCAR writer Monte Dutton, the author of two novels and seven works of nonfiction, also detailed Kinsley’s story for FurmanPaladins.com earlier this year.

A catcher and four-year member of the Paladin baseball program, Kinsley underwent a six-hour bone marrow transfer procedure on March 30 to give someone else an opportunity to live. Screened two years ago through Be The Match, a national marrow donor program, Kinsley heard nothing for months before receiving a phone call last fall alerting him that he was a perfect match for a mother suffering from leukemia. He underwent painful injections in advance of the procedure, battling fatigue for several days prior to and after the transfer.

In honor of Kinsley’s gift, Be The Match sponsored a screening on Furman’s campus on April 13 and added approximately 90 potential donors to its national registry.

A four-time Southern Conference Academic Honor Roll selection, the Manhasset, N.Y., native, graduated Cum Laude on May 9, 2015, with a B.A. degree in business administration and Chinese studies, and is currently working in investment banking in Atlanta, Ga.
