MACON, Ga. – The Mercer University baseball program will make its third appearance in the NCAA Division I Baseball Championship in the last six years, as it was named the No. 4 seed in the Tallahassee Regional during the NCAA’s Selection Show on ESPNU on Monday afternoon.

Mercer (35-21) earned the program’s second automatic bid to the NCAA tournament with a perfect run through the Southern Conference Baseball Championship presented by Mountain Shore Properties. The Bears secured the bid by outscoring opponents 32-10 en route to an unblemished 4-0 record and a sweep of the league's regular-season and tournament titles.

The Bears open the tournament on Friday, May 29, as they take on top-seeded Florida State (41-19) on Mike Martin Field at Dick Howser Stadium. The game, which is slated for a 6 p.m. start, will be broadcast live on ESPN3.

“We are very excited to be heading to Tallahassee next weekend,” said head coach Craig Gibson. “Florida State is a perennial power and Howser Stadium will have a great atmosphere for postseason baseball. We are looking forward to taking on the Seminoles in our program’s next challenge.”

Florida State won its sixth Atlantic Coast Conference Championship crown in program history last weekend, defeating NC State 6-2 in Sunday’s title game. First-team All-ACC performer and USA Baseball Golden Spikes semifinalist DJ Stewart paces the Seminoles’ lineup, tallying a .318 batting average with 13 home runs and 52 RBIs. Second-team All-ACC standout Billy Strode leads a pitching staff that posted a 3.84 ERA this year, as the senior southpaw sported a 2-0 record and a 2.08 ERA in 2015 with an ACC-leading 13 saves.

Joining Mercer and Florida State in the Tallahassee Regional are No. 3 seeded Auburn and the No. 2 seed, The College of Charleston.

The winner of the Tallahassee Regional will face the winner of the Gainesville Regional in Super-Regional play on June 5-7. Teams in the Gainesville Regional include Florida, Florida A&M, Florida Atlantic and South Florida.
