Pair Of Samford School Records Fall At Georgia Invitational

ATHENS, Ga. – The Samford University track and field teams took part in the Georgia Invitational hosted by the University of Georgia on Saturday, May 9, at the Spec Towns Track.

The Bulldogs broke two school records on the day with Claire Goodson breaking the first with a 4.12m vault in pole vault to take first place in the event.

Junior Brandon Hazouri notched Samford's second school-record of the day with a time of 1:48.05 in the men's 800 meters while also taking a first place finish in the event. Nathan Hendershot took fifth place with a time of 1:50.37 and Adam Jones rounded out the event with an 11th place finish time of 1:52.69.

Samford earned two fourth place finishes in the men's and women's hammer throw thanks to Kristin Brining's personal best throw of 54.81m and Sidney Jordan's personal best toss of 59.52m.

Senior Marie Demedicis kept the momentum rolling for Samford in the women's 800 meters with a third place time of 2:10.11. Freshman Sarah Sanford posted another Top 10 finish for the Bulldogs with her 13.954 performance in the women's 100m hurdles and also ran a personal best in the 400 meters with a time of 55.10. The time in the 400 meters is the second fastest time in Samford history right behind Latoya Cunningham's school-record 54.92 set in 2002.

Brian Smith notched a new personal best in the men's shot put with a heave of 15.38m and a 10th place finish in the event.

 

Williamson Finishes Third, Allen Fifth at Duke Twilight

DURHAM, N.C. – Capers Williamson finished third and teammate Clay Allen placed fifth to highlight a solid performance by The Citadel track and field program at the Duke Twilight on Thursday afternoon.

Williamson's best toss of the afternoon (218-3) put him behind only Simon Haake (unattached) and Thomas Lang (Duke), who posted distances of 223-7 and 219-0, respectively.

Allen finished two spots behind Williamson's mark at the Morris Williams Track & Field Stadium in Durham, N.C., as he came through with a toss of 215-2.

The tandem of Williamson and Allen entered Thursday's event ranked 27th and 32nd, respectively, on the 2015 NCAA Division I Outdoor East Qualifying List.

Providing The Citadel teammates maintain their ranking, they will participate in the first round of the NCAAs held at the University of North Florida on May 28-30.

 

Brickell Leads Paladins At Duke Twilight Meet

DURHAM, N.C. - Redshirt freshman Josh Brickell placed third with a time of 14:40.25 in the 5,000m to lead the Furman men's track and field team this week at the Duke Twilight Meet at Morris Williams Stadium in Durham, N.C.

Freshman Austin Sprague led three Paladin runners in the 1,500m, turning in a time of 3:51.29 for 14th place. Senior James Perez was 16th with a time of 3:51.97, while sophomore Nate Riech was 28th after crossing the line in 3:58.07.

The Furman track and field teams will compete at the Oregon Twilight Meet in Eugene on May 8.

 

Crow Sets Paladin 1,500m Record At Oregon Twilight Meet

EUGENE, Ore. - Freshman Jacquelyn Crow posted a new Furman record in the 1,500m to lead the Paladin track and field teams Friday at the Oregon Twilight Meet at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. Crow placed eighth with a time of 4:25.32, breaking the former record of 4:27.01, set last month by redshirt freshman Allie Buchalski.

Buchalski finished third with a time of 10:28.93 in the 3,000m Steeplechase, while sophomore Tanner Hinkle was tenth in the men's 3,000m, turning in a time of 8:28.19.

Select members of the Furman track and field teams will compete at the NCAA East Regional in Jacksonville, Fla., May 29-31.

 

UNCG Wraps Up Two Days of Competition at Duke Twilight

DURHAM, N.C. - The UNCG men’s and women’s track teams wrapped up two days of competition at the Duke Twilight meet Thursday at the Morris Williams Track and Field Stadium on the campus of Duke University.

Eira Jensen posted a time of 4:37.61 in the 1,500-meter race. On the men’s side, Dakarai Shipp finished the event in 4:06.18. The time was a new personal best for the sophomore. Luke Sumerford ran the race in 4:08.80.

In the 800-meter run,Jonathan Hodge finished with a time of 1:56.87. John Elwood posted a time of 1:58.79 in the event.
