Chattanooga?s Loza Named SoCon Golfer of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Chattanooga junior Isabella Loza has been named the Southern Conference Women’s Golfer of the Week for all competition from April 1-7. The selection is made by the league office and is the final one of the 2015 season.

Loza finished fourth out of 62 competitors at the inaugural Chattanooga Classic on Tuesday, turning in a 3-over-par 219 over three rounds at the Council Fire Golf Club in Chattanooga, Tenn. The Bucaramanga, Colombia, native shot 2-over 74 and 1-over 73 Monday in the first two rounds to sit sixth heading into Tuesday’s final round. Loza closed the tournament with an even-par 72 to move up two spots for her first career top-five finish.

Loza’s 54-hole score of 219 was a career best, as was her 3-over-par showing. Her third round tied her career-low 18-hole score.

Her efforts helped Chattanooga claim the team title in the 10-team field, giving the Mocs at least one tournament title in all eight years since coach Colette Murray restarted the program. Chattanooga’s 15-shot margin of victory over runner-up Central Arkansas was the Mocs’ largest since turning in a 30-stroke victory at the 2011 SoCon Championship.

The Mocs will join the other eight league schools at the 2015 Southern Conference Women’s Golf Championship on April 12-14 at Savannah Quarters in Pooler, Ga. Chattanooga is the five-time defending champion and has produced the individual medalist in each of the last four seasons.

Also nominated: Taylor Totland (Furman), Vivienne Chin (ETSU), Sydney Needham (Samford), Bethany Galloway (Western Carolina) and Lauren Dunbar (Wofford).
