Furman finishes fourth at Rebel Intercollegiate

OXFORD, Miss. – Sophomore Taylor Totland (+3) rallied with a final-round 69 to tie for 13th, and the 15th-ranked Furman women’s golf team finished fourth Sunday in the final round of the Rebel Intercollegiate at the par-72, 6,210-yard Ole Miss Golf Course.

Totland, a native of Tinton Falls, N.J., entered the final round tied for 33rd place then scored five birdies on Sunday, including back-to-back birdies on No. 2 and No. 3, to move up 20 spots on the leader board.  She finished the round 11 strokes back of individual medalist Josee Doyon (-4) of Kent State, who tied the tournament record for the lowest individual 54-hole total at 208.

Freshman Alice Chen (+5) tied for 18th overall after scoring a 77 on Sunday, while rookie Reona Hirai (+6) added a 75 with two birdies in the final round to tie for 25th. Senior Laura DeMarco (+10) recorded three birdies for an even 72 on Sunday, tying for 41st, and freshman Jacqueline Bendrick (+12) birdied No. 7 and No. 14 to tie for 50th after carding an 82 in the final round.

Nineteenth-ranked Texas A&M (-6) won the tournament in record fashion, posting a three-round total of 858, the lowest 54-hole score in tournament history, while No. 18 Kent State (-3) placed second at 861, recording the second-lowest 54-hole total in tournament history. No. 10 Tennessee (+5) finished third, while the Paladins (+11) took fourth and Fresno State (+13) completed the top five.

Furman will compete at the Southern Conference Championships on April 12-14 in Pooler, Ga.

 

ETSU finishes eighth at Rebel Intercollegiate

OXFORD, Miss. – With the Southern Conference Championships just a week away, the ETSU women’s golf team got a nice confidence boost on the final day of action in the Rebel Intercollegiate at the Ole Miss Golf Course.

Firing their best team score of the tournament during Sunday’s third and final round, the Buccaneers moved up one more spot to finish eighth in the 18-team field. Redshirt freshman Dominika Czudkova led the ETSU efforts on the day, posting a team-best score of even-par 72 to finish the event tied for 25th individually.

Along with Czudkova, sophomore Linda Dobele and junior Vivienne Chin both carded solid rounds of 1-over-par 73 and tied for a team-best showing of 18th on the individual leaderboard.

Other ETSU results on the day included a 4-over-par 76 from sophomore Rachel Pollock and a 5-over 77 from freshman Allyson Dunn.

The ETSU women’s golf team will return to action on April 12-14 in the Southern Conference Championships, which will be played at the Savannah Quarters Golf Club in Pooler, Ga.

 

Samford ties for 10th at Rebel Intercollegiate

OXFORD, Miss. – The Samford University women’s golf team turned in its best round of the 2015 Ole Miss Rebel Intercollegiate on Sunday as the Bulldogs fired a day-three total of 294 at the 18-team, three-day event held at the par-72, 6,313-yard University Golf Club.

With its third-round performance, Samford (304-302-294=900) improved three positions on the final day and finished the tournament tied for 10th place with Clemson (297-303-300=900). The Bulldogs’ third-round tally of 294 proved to be the seventh-best score of the day.

Individually, Samford’s Sydney Needham scorched the course with a 2-under-par 70 in the final round and earned a 15th-place finish in the cumulative standings. Needham closed out the weekend tournament with a total score of 4-over-par 220 (75-75-70).

Samford’s Bailey Gray also posted a top-25 finish Sunday. Gray notched a 1-under-par 71 in the third round and ended the three-day tournament tied for 25th place at 222 (75-76-71).

The 2015 Ole Miss Rebel Intercollegiate was Samford’s final competition of the regular season and Bulldog senior Emily Stallings registered a top-50 performance out of a total of 96 competitors. Stallings finished the 54-hole tournament 12 strokes over par at 228 (78-74-76).

Rounding out Samford’s scores Sunday were Kate Collom (76-77-82=235), Haley Harrington (81-78-77=236) and Haley Wagner (82-86-85=253).

The Samford University women’s golf team will next be in action April 12-14, as the Bulldogs head to Pooler, Georgia, for the 2015 Southern Conference Championships being held at the Savannah Quarters Golf Club.

 

Mercer finishes 16th at Rebel Intercollegiate

OXFORD, Miss. – The Mercer women's golf team wrapped up the Ole Miss Rebel Intercollegiate in 16th place after collecting a team score of 311 in Sunday's final round.  Freshman Hannah Mae Deems took home the Bears' top finish, tying for 43rd with a three-day total of 227.

Mercer's completed the tournament with a team total of 928, three strokes ahead of Southern Miss for 17th place.  No. 19 Texas A&M won the event at 858, while No. 18 Kent State was second at 861.

Deems carded a 79 on Sunday and previously shot rounds of 75 and 73. Her 227 left her in a seven-way tie for 43rd place. Sophomore Marin Hanna had Mercer's best round on Sunday, posting a 2-over 74 to complete the tournament in a tie for 60th at 229.

Freshman Jaelyn Tindal finished the event with an 81 on Sunday after notching scores of 78 and 75 on Friday and Saturday. Tindal completed the event in a tie for 75th.

Senior Sarah Louie Brown took home 89th place at 241 after shooting 77 on Sunday. Junior Meredith Owen used 84 strokes on Sunday and tied for 90th at 245.

 

Wofford tied for third at Mimosa Hills

MORGANTON, N.C. – Senior Lauren Dunbar shot an even-par 72 and the Wofford women’s golf team sits in third place after Saturday’s first round of the Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate. The 12-team tournament is being contested at the Mimosa Hills Golf & Country Club.

Dunbar is in a three-way tie for second and one shot back of leader Marie Coors of St. Leo, who was the only player in the field with a round under par. Dunbar’s 72 was just a stroke shy of her season best – she shot a 1-under 71 to win the Bearcat Classic in October.

As a team, Wofford came in with a 15-over-par 303. The Terriers are tied with tournament host Appalachian State for third and just four shots back of leader St. Leo (+11). Charleston Southern is in second (+13).

All six Terriers competing posted rounds below 80 and are among the top 30 in the 64-man field. Junior Emiley Pagrabs is tied for 12th at 4-over 76 and freshman Lela Oakley is tied for 16th at 5-over 77.

The final round of the 36-hole tournament gets underway Sunday with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.

 

Western Carolina fifth at Mimosa Hills

MORGANTON, N.C. – Sophomore Bethany Galloway carded an opening round of 2-over-par 74 to stand sixth, while junior Kim Mitchell is tied for seventh after shooting 3-over 75 on Sunday to lead Western Carolina into fifth place with 18 holes remaining at the Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate.

Paired with golfers from tourney host Appalachian State and Gardner-Webb, WCU’s scoring five is scheduled to hit the course at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start between the fourth and seventh holes at the par-72, 6,009-yard Mimosa Hills Country Club.

Galloway and Mitchell lead the Catamount scoring five, entering Monday’s final 18 holes within three and four strokes of the individual lead, respectively. Mitchell is amidst a five-way tie at 75.

Junior Mariah Hopkins is locked with six others in a tie for 16th after carding 5-over-par 77 on the first day. Rounding out WCU’s side are sophomore Olivia Landino in a tie for 23rd at 78 and classmate Ashley Thompson tied for 39th, charting an 80 over the first 18 holes.

Paced by individual leader Marie Coors, St. Leo College leads the 12-team field with an opening-round team score of 299. Charleston Southern is second with a score of 301, followed by Wofford College and Appalachian State tied for third with matching scores of 303. WCU rounds out the top five, one stroke back of the two-way tie – and five strokes off the lead – at 304.

St. Leo’s Coors paces the 68-golfer field after carding an opening-round 1-under-par 71 in Sunday’s first round. She holds a one-stroke lead over a three-way tie for second at even-par 72.

 

UNCG finishes 18th at Bryan National

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG women’s golf team concluded play Sunday afternoon at the prestigious Bryan National Collegiate co-hosted by the Spartans and Wake Forest this past weekend at the Bryan Park Champions Course. The Spartans will return to action April 12-14 as they travel to Pooler, Ga., for the 2015 Southern Conference Championships hosted at the Savannah Quarters Golf Course.

The 2015 Bryan National field featured 15 teams ranked in the top 100, including 11 in the top five and five in the top 25. No. 12 Virginia and No. 13 Wake Forest finished tied for the lead after 54 holes of golf at 36-over-par 900 with the Cavaliers winning the team title in the second playoff hole. Briana Mao of Virginia won the individual title with an even-par 216 as the only play not over par for the event.

Senior Berglind Bjornsdottir and classmate Andrea Rangel wrapped up their home careers on the weekend, each taking part in their fourth career Bryan National event. Bjornsdottir finished in 85th place with a 32-over-par 248 (84-83-81), while Rangel was tied for 92nd as an individual with a 263 (84-91-88).

The Spartans finished the event with a 998 score after posting rounds of 337, 328 and 333. Sophomore Emily Kurey was the Spartans’ top finisher in a tie for 80th place overall with a 28-over-par 244 (82-81-81).

Junior Sammie Buchanan added an 89th-place finish with a 37-over-par 253 (89-81-83), while sophomore Kristin Powers ended with a 259 (88-83-88). Junior Jessica Madsen and sophomore Maddi MacClurg each finished in a tie for 92nd with a 263 score.
