Furman third at Rebel Intercollegiate

OXFORD, Miss. – Freshman Alice Chen (E) carded a 1-over 73 to tie for sixth, and the 15th-ranked Furman women’s golf team moved into third place Saturday following two rounds of the Rebel Intercollegiate at the par-72, 6,210-yard Ole Miss Golf Course.

Chen, a native of Princeton, N.J., birdied No. 3 and No. 14, finishing the round four strokes behind leader Josee Doyon (-4) of Kent State, who shot a 69 to open the tournament and added a 71 in Saturday’s second round.

Freshman Jacqueline Bendrick (+2) recorded back-to-back birdies on Nos. 14 and 15 to score a 75 in the second round, tying for 14th place, while rookie Reona Hirai (+3) birdied No. 8 to tie for 20th after also carding a 75 on Saturday. Sophomore Taylor Totland (+6) led the Paladins with a 71 in the second round after posting a team-high three birdies and enters Sunday’s find round tied for 33rd. Senior Laura DeMarco tallied two birdies on the front for an 80 in the second round, tying for 64th.

Nineteenth-ranked Texas A&M (+1) leads the tournament after posting a 288 on Saturday. No. 10 Tennessee (+4) is second, just two strokes ahead of the Paladins (+6). No. 18 Kent State if fourth (+8), while Fresno State (+9) completes the top five.

Sunday’s final round of the 54-hole tournament, which features four teams ranked in the top 20 and five teams among the top 40, will begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.

 

ETSU tied for ninth at Rebel Intercollegiate

OXFORD, Miss. – Sophomore Linda Dobele fired a team-best round of 1-over-par 73, helping the ETSU women’s golf team move up three spots on the team leaderboard during Saturday’s second round in the Rebel Intercollegiate at the Ole Miss Golf Course.

Following Saturday’s play, Dobele and junior Vivienne Chin are both tied for 23rd on the individual leaderboard. Chin posted a 4-over-par 76 in the second round after carding a team-best round of even-par 72 in Friday’s first round. As a team, the Bucs are now tied for ninth in the 18-team tournament, a field that includes five programs ranked in the top 40 nationally.

On the team leaderboard, No. 19 Texas A&M continues to lead No. 10 Tennessee by three strokes for the top spot in the team standings, while Kent State’s Josee Doyon holds the top individual position by just one stroke over Texas A&M’s Andrea Jonama.

Other ETSU results on Saturday included a 3-over-par 75 by redshirt freshman Dominika Czudkova, who is currently tied for 33rd. In addition, sophomore Rachel Pollock posted a 77 and is tied for 64th.

Mercer 16th at Rebel Intercollegiate

OXFORD, Miss. – The Mercer women's golf team stands in 16th place after 36 holes of the Rebel Intercollegiate, hosted by Ole Miss. The Bears shot 308 on Saturday and are one stroke behind Tulsa for 15th place.

Mercer's two-day total of 617 is five strokes in front of Southern Miss on the leaderboard. Texas A&M leads the field at 568.

Freshman Hannah Mae Deems posted a 1-over 73 on Saturday, bringing her tournament total to 148. Deems is set to open Sunday's final round tied for 23rd.

Freshman Jaelyn Tindal carded a 3-over 75 and is tied for 56th at 153. Sophomore Marin Hanna used 79 strokes and is tied for 72nd at 155.

Junior Meredith Owen is alone in 85th place with scores of 80 and 71. Senior Sarah Louie Brown rounds out Mercer's competitors in a tie for 90th with rounds of 80 and 84.

The final round of action is slated for a 9 a.m. start.

 

UNCG 18th at Bryan National

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG women’s golf team continued play in the prestigious Bryan National Collegiate on Saturday afternoon at the Bryan Park Champions Course. The event, co-hosted by Spartans and Wake Forest, features 15 teams ranked in the top 100, including 11 in the top five and five in the top 25.

The third and final round will be played Sunday with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start, with the Spartans set to tee off from holes Nos. 16-18 with live scoring available via www.golfstatresults.com.

The Spartans are in 18th place overall with an 89-over-par 665 through 36 holes after opening with a 337 Friday in round one before improving nine strokes in round two on the tough course in windy conditions. No. 12 Virginia and No. 13 Wake Forest are tied for the overall lead with 23-over-par 599s, while Briana Mao of Virginia holds the individual lead at even-par 144 as no players were under par through two rounds in the tough conditions.

Sophomore Emily Kurey continued to lead the way for the Spartans, as she is tied for 77th overall. Kurey has posted a 19-over-par 163 after opening with an 82 in round one before carding an 81 in round two. Senior Berglind Bjornsdottir is second on the leaderboard for UNCG in a tie for 87th place with a 23-over-par 167 (84-83).

Junior Sammie Buchanan rebounded from a tough first round to move up to 89th place with a 26-over-par 170 as she improved eight strokes in round two with a 9-over-par 81. Sophomore Kristin Powers is in 90th at 27-over-par 171 (88-83), while junior Jessica Madsen rounds out the lineup with a 31-over-par 175 (83-92).

Sophomore Maddi MacClurg and senior Andrea Rangel are playing as individuals this weekend. MacClurg is tied for 92nd at 30-over-par 174 (83-91), while Rangel is tied for 94th at 31-over-par 175 (84-91).
