SPARTANBURG, S.C. – VMI’s Yaa Agyepong-Wiafe has been named the Southern Conference Women’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week while teammate Bria Anderson earned Women’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week. Furman’s Tanner Hinkle has been named the Men’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week while VMI’s Jordan White was selected as the Men’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week. The selections are made by the league’s track and field coaches.
Agyepong-Wiafe ran a school-record time of 14.66 in the 100-meter hurdles at the Charlotte Invite last weekend. The time ranks seventh in the SoCon this season. The freshman was also a member of the Keydets’ 4x100 team that recorded a school-record 47.72, which ranks second in the league this season.
Anderson recorded a jump of 18-3.25 feet in the long jump and a jump of 35-9.5 in the triple jump at the Charlotte Invite last weekend. The freshman’s marks rank fourth and seventh in the SoCon, respectively. The freshman was also a member of the Keydets’ 4x100 team that recorded a school-record 47.72, which ranks second in the league this season.
Hinkle recorded a time of 14:09.61 in the 5,000-meter run at the Virginia Challenge last weekend, breaking the school record by over 12 seconds. The time currently ranks second in the SoCon this season.
White tossed the shot put a distance of 50-5.5 feet at the Charlotte Invite last weekend. The mark is currently tops in the SoCon.
