SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman’s Alex Moreno-Kaste has been named the Southern Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for all matches played April 13-19. Moreno-Kaste won in singles and doubles play as the Paladins rallied for a 4-3 victory over UNCG Saturday afternoon.

With the matched tied 3-3, the senior pulled out a 7-6 (7-5), 7-5 win over Kayla Gammie at No. 1 singles to earn the deciding point for the Paladins.  The win gave Moreno-Kaste her seventh consecutive singles victory and her ninth win in her last ten matches.

The Wesley Chapel, Fla., native teamed up with Ansley Speaks at No. 1 doubles to earn an 8-4 decision over Gammie and Corinne Blythe.  Furman’s top doubles team has now won its last six matches together.

The win lifted Furman into fourth place in the league standings, setting up a rematch between the Paladins and Spartans in the opening round of the 2015 Southern Conference Women’s Tennis Championships on Friday.

Other top performers in the Southern Conference included ETSU’s Regina Nychytailova, Samford’s Yasmeen Ebada, Chattanooga’s Katie Polk and Western Carolina’s Shannon Bettiol.
