Keydets Excel on Final Day at Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Bria Anderson finished in the top nine in two events and helped set another school relay record, while Jordan White finished in the top seven in a pair of throwing events to lead VMI track and field on the final day of competition at the Charlotte Invitational, contested Saturday in Charlotte, N.C.

Anderson's best day of her collegiate career thus far included a fourth-place finish in the long jump, where she posted a leap of 5.57 meters (18'3 1/4"), as well as a ninth-place triple jump result (10.91 M/35'9 1/2"). The long jump mark was the fourth-best in the conference this season, while teammate Kennedy Smith's 5.29 M (17'4 1/4") effort was good for seventh Saturday and ninth in the conference.

Anderson was also part of another school record effort in the 4X100-meter relay, where she teamed with Mia McClain, Yaa Agyepong-Wiafe and Kerisha Goode for a 47.72 second effort, a third-place finish and the first ECAC qualifier ever for the women's program in that event.

Agyepong-Wiafe returned later to finish fifth in the 100-meter hurdles (14.66 seconds), while the Keydets posted ninth-place finishes in both the 400 and 800-meters. Christina Hill was ninth in the 400, crossing the stripe in 58.94 seconds, the second-fastest time in school history, while Kennedy Flynn was ninth in the 800 (2:19.11).

Finally, Mary Grace Lemon was seventh in the discus (39.00 M/127'11") and Elizabeth Johnston was eighth (38.96 M/127'10").

On the men's side, Jordan White led the way with a third-place finish in the shot (15.38 M/50'5 1/2") and a seventh-place finish in the discus (42.43 M/139'2"). That was not the top finisher for the Keydets, however, as Brandon White continued his recent run of success by posting a second-place finish in the 3K (8:59.50).

The hurdles were again kind to the Keydets, as Quincy Murphy finished third in the 110-meters with a 14.70 Clocking and Davon Guerrier was fourth in 14.75. Guerrier then teamed with Julian Jackson, Aron Long and Pete Reed to finish third in the 4X100-meter relay with a time of 41.79.

Avery Martin came home fifth in the 800, crossing the line in 1:51.81, and Jackson finished sixth in the 400 with a time of 49.20. Finally, Long finished eighth in the 100 (10.90).

VMI track and field will return to action next week, when the team opens the SoCon Championships on Saturday in Birmingham, Ala.
