JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - Celebrating Senior Day, the 68th-ranked ETSU men's tennis team earned a convincing, 7-0 victory versus The Citadel Friday, extending its win streak to nine and clinching the Bucs' 12th win in their last 13 matches.
With the victory, the Buccaneers (13-7, 6-0 SoCon) remained as one of only two unbeaten teams remaining in the Southern Conference. ETSU will go toe-to-toe with the other unbeaten team, Furman (7-14, 5-0 SoCon) Saturday, April 18 at 1:00 p.m., in Johnson City in the Bucs' regular season finale.
Prior to Friday's match, ETSU recognized the contributions of outgoing senior Fernando Amon, who earned a victory at No. 3 Doubles alongside Sebastian Yllera.
Amon and Yllera knocked off The Citadel's duo of Oliver Dedding and Joe Bove, 8-4.
ETSU's other two doubles teams also earned wins, allowing the Bucs to carry a 1-0 advantage into singles play. The Buccaneers have won the doubles point in each of their last seven matches.
With their victory at the top doubles spot, David Biosca and Rogerio Ribeiro extended their win streak to five matches. The duo has not lost a match since March 22.
The Buccaneers captured all six singles points Friday, including five straight-set wins.
Yllera and Robert Herrera opened singles play with a pair of wins at the No. 4 and No. 5 positions, respectively.
Redshirt junior Ricardo Pabon followed suit, clinching the victory for ETSU with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 6 Singles.
Nunez, Huertas, and Ribeiro put the finishing touches on the Buccaneers' win, with each winning their respective match. At No. 3, Huertas came from behind to knock off The Citadel's Nicholas Bradley, 2-6, 6-1, 6-3.
Ribeiro's win at the top spot marked his seventh-consecutive singles victory. Meanwhile, Yllera is currently in the midst of a six-match singles win streak.
