SPARTANBURG, S.C. – ETSU golfer Gudmundur Kristjansson has been named the General Shale Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week, the league announced on Wednesday.
Kristjansson earned co-medalist honors after tying for first at the weather-shortened Greenbrier Collegiate Invitational on Tuesday. The junior shot a 3-under-par total of 137 in 36-holes of play before inclement weather cancelled the final round. As a team, the 39th-ranked Buccaneers won the tournament by one stroke after posting a two-round total of 566 for a 6-over-par score.
The win was Kristjansson’s second of the season and his second win in three tournaments. The native of Reykjavik, Iceland, who carded eight birdies in two rounds, shot a 2-under-par 68 in round one and a 1-under-par 69 in round two.
Kristjansson, majoring in physics with a minor in math, holds a career 3.725 grade point average.
